Gadgets and valuables cover

The standard cover for gadgets and valuable items on a Virgin Money Travel Insurance policy is between £200 and £600 depending on the level of cover you choose, but this doesn’t cover all items.

Our Gadget and Valuables extended cover gives you higher coverage and covers you for items that aren’t covered as standard – for example mobile phones.

We offer 2 levels of Gadgets and valuables cover as optional extras, and you can choose which option you require during the quote process.

Both options cover your gadgets and valuables for theft, loss or damage and you’re also covered for unauthorised use.

The gadgets we cover are:

Adjustable excess levels

Adjust how much excess you pay if you make a claim by changing your premium amount.

If you pay an extra premium, we'll include an 'excess waiver' in your policy, which means you won't need to pay any excess if you need to claim.

Or you can reduce the cost of your premium by choosing to double your excess if you need to claim.

Some of the things that aren't covered

Please refer to the Policy Document for all exclusions

Even if you select the 'excess waiver', you may still have to pay an increased medical excess if you claim because of a declared medical condition or sports / leisure activity.

You can select your Excess when you get a quote. Just choose this option when you reach step 3 'Tailor your cover'.

Cruise cover

Whilst standard travel insurance covers cancellation of a cruise or medical expenses incurred overseas, it does not offer some of the bespoke benefits that are more suited to cruise holidays.

So, if you’re travelling on a cruise, we offer an optional extra that gives you bespoke cover for your cruise.

The additional benefits included as part of this optional extra are:

Missed Departure: we pay for you to get to the next port, if you are delayed getting to the original departure point.

Cabin Confinement: we pay a benefit if you are confined to your cabin for medical reasons.

Itinerary Change: we pay compensation if a stopover is missed (e.g. through bad weather).

Unused Excursion: we pay for unused activities ashore which cannot be used due to cabin confinement.

Cruise Interruption: pays for additional travel costs if you need to re-join the cruise after having medical treatment ashore.

Business cover

If you're on a business trip and your laptop, mobile phone or other computer equipment is lost, stolen, or damaged we will cover the cost of replacing it. We’ll pay you up to £500 for any single item after we have deducted an amount for wear and tear and loss of value.

If any of your business equipment is lost, stolen or damaged, and you need to have a replacement couriered to you in an emergency, we will pay £200 towards the cost.

If you have an accident during your business trip, we will double the amount we pay you under our standard personal accident cover if you are travelling on a booked business trip that you or your employer has paid for.

If any of your business equipment is lost, stolen, or damaged and you need to hire replacements, we will pay £50 per day towards this cost, up to a total of £500. You won’t need to pay an excess for this.
