What are these terms for?
We (Virgin Money) provide these switch terms for our Virgin Atlantic Credit Card customers (you).
We set out the eligibility criteria and key rules if you choose to switch between the Virgin Atlantic Reward and Reward+ products. We may change these Switch Terms without notice, as we require from time to time.
We may refer to the Virgin Atlantic Reward and Reward+ Credit Card Flying Club terms. For example, to mention the benefits available under those terms and how switching impacts them. Those terms are different to your credit agreement with us. They are provided by Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited (Virgin Atlantic) and you can find them here:
We will help you to manage the switch process between the Virgin Atlantic Reward and Reward+ products.
Firstly, we will use a few expressions in these terms - What do we mean by them?
- When we refer to a “year”, we mean a year running from when you first opened your Virgin Atlantic Credit Card.
- We sometimes talk about your “anniversary”, this is simply the date each year on which you first opened your card. This date doesn’t change if you switch between the Reward and Reward+ products.
How do I switch between the Reward and Reward+ products?
- You can request to switch using our online form.
- We will consider your request in line with your credit agreement and these switch terms. We will let you know within 7 working days if we’re able to apply the switch to your credit card and if so, when the switch will happen.
What rules apply to all switches between the Reward and Reward+ products?
- When you switch between products, the switch is permanent. However, that doesn’t stop you from switching again in the future, if you are eligible under these terms.
- Your credit agreement terms set out the interest rates for both products. After we’ve completed your switch, you’ll be charged at the applicable rate from your next statement date onwards.
- You can’t switch onto a product if you already have that product.
- We won’t need to carry out new credit affordability checks if you choose to switch.
- You need to have a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club membership linked to your credit card before you can switch.
- You can only earn one reward voucher per year. Switching does not allow you to earn two reward vouchers.
- Unless we’ve told you that something is changing, everything else remains the same after you switch. For example, you can continue to use the same card and your balance is unaffected.
What rules apply when you switch from the Reward to Reward+ product?
- You can only make this switch once per year.
- If you are behind on your credit card payments, or over your credit limit, you won’t be able to switch.
- You will need to pay the annual fee for the Reward+ product. You will see this fee on your monthly statement the month after you switch. You only need to pay the full annual fee once per year.
- You will start to earn Virgin Points at the Reward+ product rate from the date the switch is completed. We will also retrospectively increase the amount of points you have earned on your card purchases, as though you had the Reward+ product from the beginning of that year.
- The number of points you need to earn a reward voucher will change from the date of the switch, as set out in the Reward+ Credit Card Flying Club terms.
- When you switch to Reward+, we will check if you’ve spent enough to earn a reward voucher. If so, Virgin Atlantic will add your reward voucher to your Flying Club account within 30 days of your switch.
- After your switch is complete, you will need to pay the annual fee each year. It’s added to your statement the month of your anniversary.
- It’s not possible for us to apply this switch during the final statement month before your anniversary. However, you can still request a switch during this time. For successful switch requests, we’ll simply hold off applying the switch until your anniversary date.
What rules apply when you switch from the Reward+ to Reward product?
- You can only make this switch once per year.
- If you make this switch, you won’t be entitled to a refund for any Reward+ annual fee you’ve been charged for that year.
- However, if you have never used your Reward+ card in the year you switch, we will refund your annual fee automatically.
- You will start to earn Virgin Points at the Reward product rate from the date the switch is completed. We won’t make any changes to the Virgin Points you have already earned on the Reward+ product prior to the date of the switch.
- The number of points you need to earn a reward voucher will change from the date of the switch, as set out in the Reward Credit Card Flying Club terms.
What happens to my welcome bonus if I switch after taking out my card?
- We don’t make any changes to welcome bonuses unless you’ve switched within the first 90 days of your account opening. If you switch during that period:
- From Reward to Reward+, you will be eligible to earn the higher welcome bonus, as though you opened the Reward+ product.
- From Reward+ to Reward, you will be eligible to earn the lower welcome bonus, as though you opened the Reward product. However, if you had already earned the higher welcome bonus using the Reward+ product, we’ll let you keep this.
- In all cases, you need to have made a purchase using your card in order to be entitled to any welcome bonus.
Can I benefit from new promotional offers when I switch product?
- No, new promotional offers such as introductory zero percent purchase or balance transfer rates don’t apply to product switches.
- From time to time we run promotions which can include enhanced bonus points offers (offering new cardholders extra points in addition to our standard card welcome bonuses). Existing customers completing a product switch are not eligible for these offers. Please see above to find out how welcome bonuses are affected when switching.
