Questions and answers

Only eligible transactions can be added to an instalment plan. If your transaction is not visible when you are setting up your plan, then it is not eligible.

Before setting up an instalment plan, please ensure you have at least 5% of your credit limit available. This will be needed to cover the monthly instalment fee.

Eligible transactions can be made by primary and additional cardholders. Transactions must be:

  • Over £250
  • Posted to your account in the last 30 days
  • Retail transactions (any balance transfer, money transfer or cash transactions are not eligible for instalment plans)

Instalment plans sit alongside your existing credit card balance and don't affect any transactions or balance transfer/money transfers you have made in the past or any you plan to make in the future.

You can see the details of your instalment plans in the Virgin Money Credit Card app, in the Payments section.

You will see a breakdown of all of your active instalment plans as well as completed plans. Each plan is broken down to help you manage your monthly payments. You'll see your plan payments, the monthly fee, and how long the term is.

You can also see the detail of all of your instalment plans in your statement - there's a section called "A closer look at your instalment plans".

There is no interest to pay on an instalment plan, however you'll have to pay a fixed monthly fee as part of your Requested Payment. You'll be asked to confirm the fee before setting up your instalment plan. The fee will also be shown your statement each month.

If you miss all or part of any instalment plan payment, then the amount that was missed will be added to your standard credit card balance. You will be charged interest on that amount (not on any instalment plan fees) at the standard rate for the type of transaction that the instalment plan was set up to pay back. We will never charge interest on any instalment plan fees.

There are multiple ways to take care of your credit card payments. The easiest way to manage your payments is to set up a Direct Debit in the Virgin Money Credit Card app. Once this is set up we manage this for you to ensure all payments needed are taken by the due date.

Virgin Money or Virgin Atlantic Credit Card customers:

Direct Debit:

If you have a Direct Debit set up on your credit card then you do not need to do anything further. We will automatically amend any payments due, prior to the due date, to ensure your requested payment is collected.

To check if you have a Direct Debit set up you can see this on the "manage regular payments" section on the payments tile within the app.

Faster Payments:

If you choose to pay manually from your bank account or through the Virgin Money Credit Card app, please remember to pay at least the Requested Payment amount shown at the top of your statement, so you can cover both your minimum payment and the payments needed to keep up to date with your instalment plans.

If you choose to pay more that your Requested Payment or choose to make payments throughout the month, please ensure any transactions you are trying to pay are showing on your statement. Remember, we allocate payments to balances on your statement before any new transactions that are yet to appear. If you do this and your transactions are not on your statement you may repay your instalment early.

Important information

Make sure you can afford the payments that you have selected. Once you have created your plan you will not be able to amend the length of the term, so the only option would be to cancel the plan. At this point the full outstanding balance will be moved into your standard credit card balance where it will be subject to interest.

You will be unable to withdraw cash once you have an instalment plan. If this is something you may be thinking of doing then you might want to reconsider creating an instalment plan.

Make sure you pay the full Requested Payment each month - if you miss all or part of your instalment plan payment then the amount missed will be moved to your standard credit card balance and will be subject to interest.

If you miss 3 instalment plan payments within a single plan then that plan will be cancelled.

If you miss 3 minimum payments all instalment plans that were active at the point the minimum payments were missed, the plans will be cancelled.
