- Get everyone out of the vehicle through the left doors and move far away from the road. If possible, get behind a safety barrier.
- Call your local highways agency to let them know that you've broken down on a motorway. If possible, use your nearest emergency phone. Or, call the following number on your mobile:
- If you're driving in England, call National Highways on 0300 123 5000.
- If you're driving in Scotland, call Traffic Scotland on 0800 028 1414.

Green Flag will help you if you break down in the UK or Europe*.
The cover provides help if your vehicle is broken down at the roadside anywhere in the UK or at your home address.
If we can’t get it going, we’ll take you and the vehicle to a local repairer.
If it can't be fixed the same day we can offer you one choice from options including:
- Long distance recovery to a single destination anywhere in the UK;
- Alternative options to long distance recovery such as hire car; overnight accommodation or alternative transport.
As well as cover for your vehicle you also have Personal cover which means Green Flag will come out to help you if you are a passenger or driver in any vehicle so long as it is privately registered and used in the UK. Personal cover is not available in Europe*.
The cover provided is subject to certain conditions and exclusions. It's important you read the full details.
The intention of the policy is to provide cover for the main household vehicle. So even though the vehicle is not registered in the name of the account holder, Green Flag would provide cover for this vehicle as the main vehicle on the policy.
No, this is not necessary. When you initially call them for help following a breakdown, Green Flag will take the details of the main vehicle that will be on cover.
No, there are no vehicle age restrictions, provided your vehicle has been serviced, looked after and used as recommended by the manufacturer. It also needs to meet any legal requirements and driving laws that apply, including having valid tax, insurance and an MOT. Green Flag will check these details at the time of any breakdown.
Your policy number is made up of your Club M account number and sort code, so please have these to hand. Don't worry if you don't have them, Green Flag can also find your details by the first line of your home address and postcode. Please make sure you use the address as it is noted on your Club M account.
You do not need to tell Green Flag, when you are travelling in Europe, but here are some key points to remember;
- Remember your vehicle registration documents (V5C). You’ll need to carry the original, as proof that you’re the owner. If you’re not the owner, you’ll need a letter of authority from them, and a Vehicle on Hire Certificate (VE103) instead.
- Don’t forget your driving licence. You’ll need the original of that, too.
- If you’ve got a photocard, remember to take the paper counterpart as well.
- You might also need an International Driving Permit in some countries, as well as your driving license. To check whether one will be necessary please check the Government website Link opens in a new window.
- Take a credit card, in case you might want to use the car hire benefit. (The car hire company will need to swipe it as security.)
- If you break down on a motorway or major road, they’ll send a local recovery truck out to you. Most of these won’t have links to UK motoring organisations, so you might have to pay for help there and then. If you do, keep all the receipts, and send them to Green Flag when you get back to the UK.
- Green Flag will reimburse you for your recovery and roadside repair costs, but not for any spare parts.
The cover provided is subject to certain conditions and exclusions. It's important you read the full details.
