How to make a CHAPS payment using Business Internet Banking
- Sign in to Business Internet Banking – for the best experience, sign in using your desktop.
- Select the 'Payments' section at the top of the screen.
- Select 'CHAPS payments'.
- Choose the account you wish to send a CHAPS payment from.
- Select the payee and follow the steps on screen.
Each CHAPS payment costs £17.50, which is added to the payment amount.
CHAPS payments can only be made Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Payments submitted after 5pm are processed on the next working day.

Other business types (for example, partnerships or multi-director companies)
We’ll send you forms that must be completed and signed by authorised signatories. These should be returned to the same email we emailed you from.
We may contact you by email if we need further information after reviewing your request.
Important notes
- CHAPS and international payment activation, as well as any related limit changes, are subject to additional checks.
- We may not always be able to approve the requested changes, but we’ll let you know if this is the case.
- Processing usually takes 10 to 15 business days, though this may vary.
If you don’t currently have CHAPS or International Payment facilities and need to make an urgent payment, you can submit a CHAPS or Outward International Payment Form.
