Upgrade your cover
Pay a little more and extend your travel insurance with our optional add-ons:
Subject to terms and conditions.
You can add extra cover if you're taking part in winter sports. Winter sports insurance covers for:
- emergency medical treatment for winter sports injuries
- delay, loss, theft or damage to ski equipment
- ski pack expenses
- piste closure
- search and rescue costs
Cruises are covered as standard with our travel insurance.
If you want extra peace of mind while you're on board, our Cruise Cover add-on gives you extra cover for life at sea. It covers you if:
- you're confined to your cabin
- you miss a pre-booked excursion
- you miss a port of call
- you're denied boarding
This gives you extra protection for your gadgets while you're on holiday. All levels of gadget cover include:
- theft
- loss
- accidental damage
- malicious damage
When you make a claim you'll have to pay an excess charge. If you want to waive this cost, add 'excess waiver' cover to your policy.
Adding this as an extra means that if a vehicle you've rented gets damaged, you can get back the excess set out in the rental agreement.

Questions about travel insurance and medical conditions
A pre-existing condition can be related to your physical or mental health, including:
- Anything you’ve had medical treatment or took medication for in the last year.
- Any medical condition that you’ve had in the past.
- Anything you’re undergoing investigation or testing for, or any new conditions you might develop between now and the start of your trip.
- Any long-term conditions that require ongoing treatment or monitoring such as asthma, diabetes, heart or mental health conditions, even if they are currently being managed/controlled.
You can see the full details on the medical conditions you or the person travelling with need to declare when you get a quote online. It’s really important you tell us about these conditions when you take out a policy to make sure you’re covered.
Download the Virgin Money Travel Insurance Policy Wording for full details and any exclusions.
When you get a quote, you'll be asked if you have any medical conditions. You’ll then be able to declare the conditions as part of the process.
Pregnancy is not considered a medical condition, so you don’t need to declare it. However, pregnancy complications should be declared, for example if you have diabetes in pregnancy.
You're covered for bodily injury and illness whilst travelling when pregnant.
Check your transport provider’s guidelines before travelling as they may have restrictions.
There's no cover for medical costs associated with normal pregnancy. This policy provides cover for unforeseen events, accidents, illnesses and diseases. Normal childbirth would not constitute an unforeseen event.
Costs from pregnancy or childbirth are excluded if your due date is less than 12 weeks after the end of the trip. For multiple pregnancies, this is 16 weeks.
We cover most medical conditions. But if you have a condition that means you pay significantly more for insurance, you can talk to a specialist.
Visit the MoneyHelper travel insurance directory. Or call 0800 138 7777 for more info.
When you declare a medical condition with us, you'll get a medical declaration. This will be emailed to you and will also be available in the online portal for you to check. It contains all the conditions that are covered on your policy and the info you gave us.
If any of your details change then you will need to contact us on 0330 175 8283 as soon as possible to update your policy. You may need to pay an extra premium for this.
