Why do I need to do this?

As part of your Virgin Money Current Account application, to prevent fraud, we need some more information to confirm your identity. It takes just a few minutes to send us the things we’ll need, and it’s completely safe and secure thanks to our trusted ID verification partner HooYu.

Who are HooYu?

HooYu are global digital customer ID verification experts. They use an encrypted connection to quickly and safely verify people by checking documents for authenticity and matching them to live selfies. It speeds up the application process by avoiding the need to send documents to us in the post.

When the verification checks are all done, your identity verification information will be passed to us and your data will be deleted from HooYu.

What do I need to do?

Here's the three steps to verify your identity

1.

Look out for a text from us

This may even be sitting on your phone already, but don’t worry if it takes a couple of hours. The text will contain a link from HooYu – follow this to get started. For your security, the link will expire within three days from when you receive your text.

Who's this HooYu?

We always tell our customers to be careful when receiving messages with links that claim to be from Virgin Money or our partners, but the text you receive will be genuine and can be trusted.

2.

Take a selfie

HooYu will guide you through the steps to submit your proof of ID. The first step is to take a selfie using your phone’s camera.

Just follow the instructions - if your photo is too dark or blurred, you’ll get the opportunity to take it again. You’ll need to take a photo using your camera rather than uploading an existing picture, so make sure your phone - or whichever device you’re using - has a working camera.

3.

Photograph ID documents

The final step is to take photos - again using your device’s camera - of documents that prove your identity. You’ll be asked to take photos of the front and back of these documents.

Which documents can I use?

There’s a number of documents you can use, including driving license, passport, identity card, residence permit and travel visa.

To save time, make sure you’ve got a couple of these documents handy before you start.

What happens next?

Once you've sent us your selfie and photos of your ID, we’ll take around two business days to check your details. We’ll then get back in touch to update you on your application, so look out for a text or email from us.

Is there an alternative to HooYu?

If you don’t want to send us your proof of ID online - or you’re having trouble using the HooYu service - there are other ways of supplying the documents we need.
