Using your Business Debit Card

The Virgin Money Business Debit Card is the perfect partner for your business. It allows you to withdraw cash and pay for goods and services at millions of locations worldwide, just look for the MasterCard® acceptance mark. Ideal for managing your daily business expenses.

If multiple people in your business need access to a Debit Card we've got it covered - up to 8 Debit Cards are available per business account.

Contactless payments

If your debit Mastercard is contactless, you can pay for items up to £45 without having to enter your PIN. Just touch your card against the contactless card reader when you’re ready to pay. You’ll hear a beep and see a green light on the reader. You’ve paid.

Using contactless is just as safe as Chip and PIN. You have the same protection against fraud, and if you think you've been incorrectly charged, just let us know.

For extra security if you use contactless frequently or if you haven't used Chip and PIN in a while you may be asked to enter your PIN. If the card terminal has not been upgraded, a ‘card declined’ message will appear. In the event of receiving a declined message, you should attempt to pay using Chip and PIN rather than contactless.

Depositing cash and cheques

You can deposit cash and cheques up to the value of £2,000 per day at any Store deposit ATM using your Virgin Money Business Debit Card. The single transaction limit is £1,000, 25 cheques or 50 notes.

If you exceed these limits the deposit ATM will advise you that you have exceeded the daily transaction or deposit limit.

Business Debit Card Cashback

Debit Card Cashback is just one of the ways we're bringing brighter benefits to your business account. From 1st May 2021 earn 0.35% Cashback on most Debit Card purchases. You can boost your business account balance by up to £500 each calendar year*.

What’s involved?

  • Earn 0.35% Cashback on what you spend using your Debit Card with eligible retailers (capped at £500 per calendar year per Debit Card). Some exclusions do apply.
  • We’ll add the Cashback credit straight to your business account before the 15th of the month. Giving you extra money to spend on your business - great for your business cashflow.
  • Each Debit Card will be automatically enrolled – you don’t need to do anything. If you want to opt out, contact us via Secure Chat on Business Internet Banking or call us on 0800 756 0800, between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. You’ll need your Debit Card handy when you get in touch.

Who's eligible?

It’s available to all new and existing Business Debit Cardholders from 1 May 2021.

If you’re an existing Clydesdale or Yorkshire Bank customer you can still use your Debit Card to get Cashback on eligible purchases. When your current card expires, we’ll replace it with a shiny new Virgin Money one too.

If you haven’t got a Business Debit Card

If you’re an existing customer and you haven’t got a Debit Card, you can download our application form to get one. Fill it in and return it to your nearest Store or post it to us as at the following address:

Terms and conditions

Your Business Debit Card linked to your Business Current Account will be enrolled in this programme automatically, but if you want to opt out you can. Terms apply to Cashback which you accept by continuing to use your card. Here’s the terms you need to know:

  • You’ll earn 0.35% back on what you spend using your Debit Card with eligible retailers (capped at £500 per calendar year per Debit Card). The Cashback doesn’t come from the retailers that you buy things from, it comes from Virgin Money as a benefit of using your Debit Card. We add the Cashback credit straight to your business account.
  • Each Debit Card will be automatically enrolled – you don’t need to do anything.
  • Should you not wish to receive this Cashback benefit, you can opt out by:
    • Contacting us via Secure Chat on Business Internet Banking or calling us on 0800 756 0800, between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. You’ll need your Debit Card handy when you get in touch.
  • If we send you a new Debit Card it will automatically be registered for Cashback. You will need to opt out again if you do not want your replacement Debit Card to be enrolled for Cashback.
  • Any additional cardholders linked to your Business Current Account will earn Cashback (you can have up to 8 additional Debit Cards on your Business Current Account). They will need to be opted out individually if you do not wish to receive the Cashback benefits.
  • Not all Debit Card transactions are eligible for Cashback. Some exclusions do apply like payments which are then cancelled, reversed or refunded, transactions with gambling businesses, any tax related payments, payments made via a third party payment service provider and money transfers. We can change the list of exclusions from time to time, without notice. You can find the list of exclusions here.
  • This Cashback benefit is linked to your Business Current Account and is a standalone programme. However, if eligible you may receive other benefits from using your Debit Card as part of Virgin Money’s Mastercard Business Savings programme.
  • The Cashback will be credited to your Business Current Account by the 15th of the month following spend, or such other day in that month as we determine.
  • Your new Debit Card(s) will be automatically be enrolled for Cashback after your old one is cancelled. Any Cashback earned but not already paid on a lost card will be lost.
  • If you close your account and your Debit Card(s) is (are) cancelled, then you will lose any Cashback earned but not already paid.
  • If we cancel our Debit Card(s) then you will lose any Cashback earned but not already paid.
  • We can withdraw this offer and/or change the terms relating to Cashback (including the rate paid, the exclusions and the cap) at any time. You may not receive notice of this and any unpaid Cashback may be lost.

Mastercard® Business Savings™

We’ll automatically register you for the Mastercard Business Savings® Programme, which will give you discounts whenever you use your Debit Card from 1 May 2021 with participating retailers.

What’s involved?

  • The discount amount will be paid directly to your business account around 3 days following the qualifying transaction.
  • Each Debit Card will be automatically enrolled – you don’t need to do anything. If you want to opt out, contact us via Secure Chat on Business Internet Banking or call us on 0800 756 0800, between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. You’ll need your Debit Card handy when you get in touch.
  • If you have additional cardholders, your business can benefit every time they use their card at participating retailer. You can have up to 8 additional Debit Cards on your Business Current Account.

  • By participating in Business Savings, you accept these terms. If you don’t want to accept these terms, you can opt out of Business Savings (see how below). You can opt out by:

  • If we send you a new Debit Card it will automatically be registered for Business Savings. You will need to opt out again if you do not want your replacement Debit Card to be enrolled for Business Savings.
  • If you have additional cardholders, they too can benefit from Business Savings (you can have up to 8 additional Debit Cards on your Business Current Account). They will need to be opted out individually if you do not wish to receive the Business Savings benefits.
  • The Business Savings programme is linked to your Business Current Account and is a standalone programme. However, if eligible you may receive other benefits from using your Debit Card as part of Virgin Money’s Cashback programme.
  • We can withdraw from offering Business Savings/and or change the terms relating to the programme (including changing the retailers and the rebate being offered) on your Debit Card at any time. You may not receive notice of this and any unpaid rebate may be lost.

Mastercard® Identity Check™

We want you to be safe when you use your Virgin Money Business Debit Card online. That's why your card is protected by Mastercard® Identity Check™.

Mastercard Debit Cards use the latest chip and PIN technology to combat fraudsters. For online purchases performed within a Merchant’s App or on their website, Mastercard® Identity Check™ improves your security even more without the need to register or remember a password. Using either our Mobile Banking App or a one-time passcode sent to your registered business phone number, Identity Check lets you identify yourself as the holder of the card and stops anyone else using it online.

To make sure all online transactions performed within a Merchant’s App or on their website are secure, you may be asked to verify your identity when you use your Mastercard at a participating online retailer.

If you are registered for the Mobile Banking App, we will send a message to your App. You will need to accept this message before you can complete your transaction.

If you have a business mobile on record (and do not have the Mobile Banking App) then we will send you a six-digit one-time passcode for you to enter on screen at the retailer’s checkout.

Make sure we have your current business mobile (call us on 0800 345 7365 or visit us in Store if you’re not certain).

If you do not have either then please be aware that your transaction may be declined.

Mastercard Identity Check works with most internet browsers and merchant apps, but software that prevents pop-up windows may interfere with your use of Identity Check.
