How it works

Your Business Credit Card account has one, shared credit limit. Because it's shared, spending on one card reduces the credit available to others and to the business as a whole.

As long as they’re 18 or over, you can add as many cardholders as you like and set an individual limit for each one. The business remains responsible for paying off any outstanding balance.

Managing credit limits

Let’s say your business has a credit limit of £10,000. You might split it like this:

  • Emma – £5,000
  • Sayjal – £3,000
  • Taylor – £2,000

If Emma and Sayjal together spend a total of £6,000, the credit available to your business falls to £4,000.

Emma and Sayjal’s individual limits reset at the point of billing, when your monthly statement is generated.

However, even though the individual credit limits have reset, your business still only has £4,000 available to spend. This applies until the £6,000 outstanding balance is paid.

To get a Business Credit Card, you need to be a UK resident aged 18 or over and have one of our business current accounts. And your business needs to have been actively trading for at least 12 months.

Credit is subject to status.

To lend your business money, we may need a personal guarantee from you or someone else. Or security from your business or a guarantor. We may not be able to lend to your business without it.

Your business and guarantor should get legal advice before providing a guarantee or security. If your business breaks its borrowing agreement, your assets will be at risk. They may be sold to repay the business or guarantor’s debt. This includes property. You can’t use a main home (often called a principal private residence) as security for this scheme.

Security and guarantees reduce our lending risk. They remain in place until your business repays all its debt to us.

You can find out more about personal guarantees on the UK Finance website Link opens in a new window.

Arrangement and other fees may apply.
