Bank impersonation scams

12 December 2025

Fraudsters are targeting Virgin Money business customers. Don’t let them catch you out.

Here’s how the scam works:

They call pretending to be from Virgin Money, claiming there’s suspicious activity on your account. To secure it, they’ll pressure you to follow their instructions – fast.

What they will ask you to do:

  • visit a fake website or live chat
  • click a link to download a remote access app, such as AnyDesk.
  • answer bogus security questions
  • share one-time passcodes or activation codes

These scams are highly convincing. Fraudsters often use spoofed phone numbers, fake transaction details, and create a sense of urgency to trick you.

If you follow their instructions, they could gain access to your account and you could lose money.

If someone calls claiming your account is at risk

Remember, Virgin Money will never:

  • direct you to a website or live chat, or ask you to download software
  • ask for activation codes or one-time passcodes
  • ask for access to your device remotely
  • ask you to authorise, re-authorise, or reverse payments
  • request a Token 3 response, which are only used for payment authorisation
  • ask you to add codes like *21* to your phone, which is used for call diversion scams

If someone does any of these things – it’s a scam. Hang up and call us directly.
