It's time for a better kind of bank - one that makes everyone better off

Why will we be better?

We believe it's time for a better kind of bank. And with our acquisition of Northern Rock, we’ve taken a big
step forwards in our ambition to build one. A bank which aims to make everyone better off: our customers,
staff and shareholders, our business partners and the communities we serve.

It's a huge ambition, but one which we believe we have the passion to achieve. Starting afresh gives us the
chance to learn from the mistakes of others. We'll have a clean sheet and we'll start as we mean to go on.

We want to build a better kind of bank. One that will bring much-needed competition to the high street:

  • By genuinely caring about you and your money. Not rushing in to sell to you.
  • By putting customer service ahead of cost-cutting. People ahead of account numbers.
  • By creating straightforward, no-nonsense products. With the reassurance that there’s no sting in the tail.
  • By making a fair profit. Not an excessive one.
  • Above all, we'll use our expertise with money to do some good in the world.

We won't get there straightaway. But we won't rest until we do.
