World's top landmarks revealed
A survey of 10,000 world travellers has uncovered the most popular landmarks across the globe, The Telegraph has reported.
The poll, carried out by Hotels.com, named the Eiffel Tower in Paris as the world’s number one landmark, followed by St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and India’s Taj Mahal.
Alison Couper, Hotels.com communications director, commented, "This survey shows that the pull of famous landmarks is so strong that many people travel to a place especially to see them. These buildings really do have a hold on our imaginations."
London narrowly missed out on having a landmark in the top ten, with its popular attractions Big Ben and the London Eye coming 11th and 12th respectively.
Other landmarks that did make the list included New York’s Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, and Sydney Opera House.
Holidaymakers in search of the world’s most iconic buildings could benefit from great value travel insurance from Virgin Money.
