Visitors returning to the Caribbean
2010 is predicted to be a strong year for tourism in the Caribbean, TravelMole has reported.
According to figures from the Caribbean Tourism Organisation, while the overall number of visitors to the region decreased from 22.9 million in 2008 to 22.1 million in 2009, an increase of 1 per cent was seen in the fourth quarter of last year.
As the global economy improves over the coming year, the CTO has predicted that tourism will continue to grow by up to 3 per cent.
Hugh Riley, CTO secretary general, commented, "While the global economy is still in a state of flux, interest in the Caribbean remains extremely high."
"We, along with our destination, hotel and cruise partners have continued to promote the region and we feel that in an increasingly hectic world with all the related pressures, now, more than ever, life needs the Caribbean and we’re here to make life easier for our visitors."
