Spain 'cheaper than Turkey'
Despite emerging during the recession as a great value non-eurozone destination, new research has found Turkey to be more expensive for visiting holidaymakers than Spain, TravelMole has reported.
According to the Post Office Worldwide Holiday Cost Barometer, which examines the prices of meals, drinks and other holiday items, Turkey is now the 22nd cheapest worldwide destination, having fallen 14 places since last year.
Spain was ranked fourth, behind Hungary, Thailand and Bulgaria, making it the cheapest eurozone destination overall.
Sarah Munro, Post Office head of travel money, commented, “For 2010 our shopping basket of eight tourist staples indicates that Turkey is now 68 per cent more expensive than Spain.
"The eurozone looks to be striking back after the battering its resorts took in 2009 when Post Office euro sales were down over 14 per cent."
Turkey was one of only eight destinations, including World Cup host South Africa, to have experienced rising prices over the last year.
