Holiday bookings rise as temperatures drop
The cold weather has resulted in more people booking foreign holidays from the warmth of their own homes, TravelMole has reported.
According to figures from The Co-operative Travel, online revenue increased by 20 per cent in the week commencing January 11th, following Britain’s coldest spell for 13 years.
Trevor Davis, retail distribution director, commented, “Last summer’s miserable weather, coupled with the extremely cold start to the year, has seen more and more people look for some guaranteed summer sun in 2010, and the predicted cold weather will drive sales further.”
The most popular destinations for the summer are proving to be Turkey and Egypt, with year on year rises in bookings of 30 per cent and 12 per cent respectively.
“Turkey and Egypt are popular as they are outside of the eurozone and therefore better value for money,” Davis continued.
Holidaymakers looking to escape the cold weather can benefit from high quality, low cost travel insurance from Virgin Money.
