Savoy reopening delayed
21/06/2010
Those hoping to indulge in a luxury break at London’s Savoy Hotel will have a wait on their hands, The Times has reported.
The reopening date of the hotel, which closed its doors in December 2007 for renovation works, has been put back again, from June this year to late August/early September.
The work was originally intended to last 16 months, with costs put at around £100 million, however the actual cost is now said to be closer to £200 million.
The additional time and cost is believed to be as a result of having to put right the poorly executed refurbishments that have taken place during the 121 year existence of the hotel.
Once completed, the Savoy will have five extra guest rooms on offer, bringing the total to 268, at prices starting from £350 per night.
A hotel insider commented, “The Savoy needs to regain its standing as the place to be seen by the great and the good from both the social and business worlds.”
