Passenger rights highlighted

07/07/2010

A campaign has been launched by the European Commission to raise awareness of passengers' rights, The Independent has reported.

Under EU regulations, transport providers must adhere to strict rules when dealing with disabled passengers, and those who have experienced delays, cancellations and luggage loss.

The point at which travellers are entitled to compensation is also set out by the regulations for both air and rail journeys.

Siim Kallas, EU Vice-President, commented, “As millions of Europeans prepare to set off for a well deserved holiday this summer, we want to make it as easy as possible for them to travel, knowing that they have rights and how to get support in claiming them if they need to.”

A new website has already been launched, and leaflets and posters will also be distributed at airports and train stations in order to make travellers aware of what they are entitled to.

Travel insurance from Virgin Money can provide extra protection for holidaymakers heading to the continent.
