More Brits taking cruises
04/05/2010
British cruise passenger numbers are expected to rise as high as 1.75 million in 2011, TravelMole has reported.
According to the Passenger Shipping Association, the exceptional value and high standards provided by cruise holidays have led to rapid growth levels in recent years.
1.53 million people took a cruise in 2009, up 4% on the previous year, with 1.65 million expected to take to the seas in 2010.
Bill Gibbons, director of the Passenger Shipping Association, commented, "The UK cruise industry proved resilient in 2009 despite the very difficult economic climate and much of this success can be attributed to the all-inclusive nature of cruising and the very high standards of quality and service."
Figures also suggested that the most popular cruise destination was the Mediterranean, followed by Northern Europe and the Caribbean.
Annual Multi-Trip insurance from Virgin Money is ideal for cruise fans taking more than one trip this year.
