New research from VisitBritain has found that UK cities are continuing to be popular with international tourists, The Guardian has reported.
Based on an analysis of overnight stays by overseas visitors between 2006 and 2009, the study found London to be by far the most popular UK city, averaging 15 million overnight overseas visitors per year.
Edinburgh attracted an average of 1.3 million per year, making it the second most popular destination with international tourists, followed by Manchester with 900,000.
Birmingham and Glasgow were also favourites with overseas visitors, welcoming an average of 737,000 and 687,000 per year respectively.
Brits looking to take a city break within the UK can cover their trip with a travel insurance policy from Virgin Money.
