Gadgets are essential for many holidaymakers

While travel insurance is a must for many holidaymakers, having the latest gadgets with them often comes close in their list of priorities, according to a study.

Up to 73% say a mobile phone is an essential item while on a break, the survey by lowcostholidays.com and Dixons Travel revealed.

Some 46% say they cannot travel without an MP3 player while 40% would never go away without their straighteners and other hair appliances.

As many as 59% accessed the internet while on holiday - either through Internet cafes or via hotel computers.

The survey also revealed that as many as 87% use mobile phones while away - with 46% relying on text messages to keep up with the latest news from home.

Around 40% take holiday photos on their mobile phones, while 43% upload their holiday photos on to Facebook to share them with their friends and family.

The poll also revealed that a good book and relaxation lead the way in what holidaymakers enjoy the most and how they want to unwind on holiday.

Paul Evans, chief executive of lowcostholidays.com said, "In today's fast-moving online world, gadgets not only help holidaymakers choose and book their holidays, they also feature highly on their holiday essentials list."

"But it's reassuring to see a good book is how holidaymakers really want to unwind while away."

Remember to add Personal belongings cover to your travel insurance policy to cover mp3 players, cameras and other gadgets (excluding mobile phones). If you would like to cover your mobile phone whilst on holiday please call 0844 888 3900.
