Hire car shortages likely
22/03/2010
Those looking to hire a car whilst on holiday in Europe are being urged to book well in advance, The Telegraph has reported.
According to the British Vehicle Renting and Leasing Association (BVRLA), vehicle shortages were experienced in parts of France, Italy and Greece last year, and are likely to occur again in 2010.
Many firms in southern Spain also reported being unable to meet demand after having to reduce their fleets.
BVRLA chief executive John Lewis commented, "Rental companies always try to look ahead and estimate demand for peak periods, but with finance in short supply and new vehicle prices rising, they can ill afford to have cars sitting around idle."
The upcoming Easter and summer holidays seasons are thought to be the likeliest times when shortages will arise.
"There will be periods when demand outstrips supply," Lewis warned.
