Disney film to boost Oxford tourism

10/02/2010

The release of Walt Disney film 'Alice in Wonderland' is expected to spark an increase in the number of visitors to the city of Oxford, The Daily Mail has reported.

The original Lewis Carroll books, 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland' (1865) and 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' (1871) were set in Oxford, and tours currently run in the city for fans keen to explore the locations that inspired the stories.

Joanne Butler, tourism manager for the city council, commented, "The new film is bound to increase the number of people coming to Oxford to find out more about Alice and Lewis Carroll."

The film, directed by Tim Burton, is set to be released on March 5th this year.

It will feature Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham-Carter as the Red Queen, and Mia Wasikowska as Alice.
