Britons name world's best beaches
19/08/2010
Two of the world's most famous beach destinations have come last in a list of the top-20 sand-and-sun getaways picked by British holidaymakers.
Rio de Janeiro and Sydney came in 19th and 20th respectively in a top 20 of destinations picked by Brits, the Centre for Economics and Business Research survey revealed.
Sydney scored just 17.79 points, after coming bottom of the list due to crime and Rio de Janeiro scored 25.23 points after being named as the most expensive of the 20 beaches.
Bulgaria's Black Sea Coast came top of the survey after meeting all the criteria that the 2,300 Britons who were polled in the survey needed for their perfect beach holiday destination.
After being judged on the cost of flights and accommodation, attractions, crime, security, and exchange rates, the Black Sea Coast scored 70.98 out of 100, while North Tunisia was second with 69.10 points and Antalya in Turkey third with 68.72.
Cornwall also made it into the top 20, but was only in 14th position with a score of 50.61 due to the typically unpredictable British weather.
