Britain’s most accessible tourist sites have been recognised at the Rough Guide to Accessible Britain Awards, The Telegraph has reported.
Launched to highlight attractions with excellent facilities for disabled travellers, the awards were judged based on the experience offered by the attraction itself, along with the range of access for disabled visitors.
London’s Science Museum was judged the best family venue, while the award for best active venue went to Cairngorm Funicular Railway and Ski Centre, Aviemore.
Other winners on the night were Brunel’s SS Great Britain, the National Railway Museum and the Eden Project, which were named best heritage venue, best free venue and readers’ choice venue respectively.
Judge Lara Masters commented, “It is great that attractions are being commended and getting an award for thinking about how to accommodate disabled people.”
The awards ceremony took place on March 22nd at the Tate Modern in London, and was hosted by broadcaster Ben Fogle.
Virgin Money offers great value travel insurance for holidaymakers looking to explore the best of Britain’s attractions.
