Glastonbury warning over crime

If your prized possessions were stolen from your house, then they should be covered by your home insurance policy, but losses from a tent may be a different story.

Police have warned revellers at this year's Glastonbury Festival to look after their valuables as soaring temperatures fuelled a rise in thefts from tents.

More than 100,000 people have set up camp for the 40th festival at Michael Eavis' 900-acre farm in Pilton, Somerset.

However an increase in crime has slightly taken the edge off the magnificent weather, with Avon and Somerset Police recording more than 88 thefts from tents as at 5pm on Thursday - up from 47 last year.

Sergeant Carolyn Crocker said: "Overall the statistics show that crime remains low and the festival remains a largely safe environment.

However it's disappointing that a small minority feel the need to engage in criminal activity and spoil the event for others.

We're continuing to work closely with security and stewards to educate festival-goers to the dangers of leaving valuables unattended in tents.

At the moment it appears that iPhones and cash are the main targets for thieves and this is so easily preventable."
