Scotland’s iconic fireworks concert, sponsored by Virgin Money
With giant walls of silver and gold crackle-effect fireworks bursting 225 metres above Edinburgh Castle, Virgin Money’s captivating Fireworks Concert brought the 2013 Edinburgh International Festival to a stunning close.
Princes Street Gardens and the surrounding streets overflowed with around a quarter of a million people, gathered to watch over 400,000 fireworks carefully choreographed to music including Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition performed by the world-renowned Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
The ‘Waterfall’ drew gasps of amazement from the audience as it descended over 130 feet down the Castle Rock. And there were plenty of ‘oohs’ and ‘aaahs’ as the fireworks that took 15 pyrotechnicians seven days to set out flew up to 320km an hour into the night, illuminating the capital’s skyline.
