Joyce Threadgill writes about her recent cruise, for which she bought Virgin Travel Insurance.
With all the current gloom and doom in the economy, my husband Peter and I decided to blow our savings and go on a cruise.
After searching around we managed to get a good cruise deal, but being over 70, we initially had difficulty in getting cheaper travel insurance.
Then I found an online recommendation for Virgin Travel Insurance.
I called up, answered some quick health-related questions and was quoted a cheaper price than the travel agent’s insurance.* I took the product out there and then and got confirmation via email and then post – so I was pleased with both the price and the service.

We had a lovely 16-day cruise around the Mediterranean in April and it went without a hitch – luckily we had no reason to claim on our insurance.
We’ve discovered that cruising is so effortless. There are no long waits at airports – we just drove to Southampton where our luggage was taken from our car and deposited in our room as we walked aboard.
Cruise ships aren’t called floating palaces for nothing. Everything is very grand and there were two swimming pools, a theatre, a gym and a spa.
There was glorious sunshine every day and we had the opportunity to explore countries we’ve never been to before.

We went on tours on four of our stops – Corfu, Venice (where we enjoyed a gondola ride), and trips to Dubrovnik and Cavtat in Croatia.
Croatia is a lovely country and I’m sure it’ll become a more popular destination in the coming years because it’s so unspoiled.
Sadly, Venice has become very full of tourists. We had to queue for ages for our gondola ride.

The only real downside to going away was the gardening and washing that awaited us on the return home – we feel like we need another holiday to recover!
Although, thankfully, we didn’t need to make a claim, Virgin Travel Insurance certainly gave us peace of mind for our trip, as well as being easy to obtain and good value too – I’d definitely buy it again.
