How much would I need?

That’s up to you. An easy way to approach it is, think how much you want to pay each month. Put that in our Quick Quote and see how much cover you’d get. Does it seem enough? You can play around with the figures to your heart’s content.

Another way to think about it is to consider what you want the cover for - we've set out some details below that might help you decide.

Here's what it can help with…

These are just a few of the things that Virgin Cancer Cover can help with, but remember it's your money, and you can do what you want with it.

Regular treatment costsEvery day living'Me' time

- Travel to and from hospital

- Hospital parking

- Accommodation (you may need to travel long distances for some treatments)

- Dietary changes

- Prescription charges

- Complementary treatments (massage / aromatherapy...)

- Phone, gas and heating bills still need paying

- Mortgage or rent (You may even want to pay off your whole mortgage)

- A carer or cleaner if you're too ill to look after your home

- You may need extra heating if the cancer affects your body temperature

- You may need to make changes to your house to make life easier

- Visit friends and family

- Take relaxing breaks

- Go on a holiday somewhere you’ve always dreamed of

- Take up a hobby or do something you''ve always wanted to do

How long do I need cover for?

Most people usually take out their insurance until some key date in the future. It could be when they intend to retire, or when their mortgage is paid off, or their kids grow up and leave home.

For example, if you’ve got 10 years left to run on your mortgage, you may want to pick a term of 10 years. That way, the policy would pay out if you got cancer, became terminally ill or died during this time.

Remember though, the longer you have the insurance for, the more it costs each month. So bear that in mind when you’re thinking how long you need to be covered.

How do people decide on what cover they need?

Because Virgin Cancer Cover is brand new, we haven’t had the chance to collect true-life stories from our customers yet about how it’s helped them cope with the financial impact of cancer.

But we built our product around common scenarios we know about from cancer organisations and our customer research. Here are some examples of what people told us:

Examples are based on level cover and assume good health.
